HOUSE OF OZ GOES GLOBAL WITH THE POLO CULTURAL BRAZILIAN INSTITUTE
The Sao Paulo skyline
We’re delighted to announce our first major international expansion beyond the United Kingdom through a historic cultural partnership with Brazilian Polo Cultural. This inaugural collaboration will present three extraordinary Australian artists as part of the prestigious City of Culture Festival in São Paulo in July 2025.
The partnership represents a significant milestone for both organisations, united by a shared mission to take the arts of their respective countries to the world through independent production platforms with the support of their nations. After establishing a strong presence at the Edinburgh Festivals and facilitating other leading cultural events across the UK, with over 1,000 international performances, this collaboration in Brazil marks House of Oz's exciting debut beyond the UK as part of a planned international expansion.
Marcelo Sollero, CEO and Artistic Director of Polo Cultural, declares: “House of Oz was a truly enchanting experience in Edinburgh. The performances, the artists, and the entire aesthetic were of singular beauty. After watching Triptych and Ten Thousand Hours, it became clear to me how important it was to bring this work to Brazil. Georgie's curatorship is exceptional. We are deeply honoured to have House of Oz as part of our festival.”
THREE EXCEPTIONAL ARTISTS IN UNIQUE PERFORMANCES
Lewis Major and Triptych - Festival Opening
Opening the City of Culture Festival on July 4th at 8pm at the iconic Sala São Paulo, Motiva Space Room, acclaimed contemporary dancer and choreographer Lewis Major will present with his company the show, Triptych. This visually extraordinary dance piece in three parts represents a masterful interplay of light, sound, movement, form and feeling, guaranteed to stir the senses of the audience.
Triptych has won over 12 international awards and has been described by critics as, "life-alteringly beautiful" and "a triumph from beginning to end". The work sets the perfect tone for the festival, demonstrating the Australian artistic excellence that characterises the entire House of Oz programming.
Gravity and Other Myths - Ten Thousand Hours
The simply incredible contemporary circus group Gravity and Other Myths will present their "mesmerising" show Ten Thousand Hours at a special House of Oz gala evening at Theatre B32 on July 11th. This multi-award winning, "breathtaking" performance will have audiences with their hearts in their mouths as they gasp out loud at the sheer talent and daring of these incredible performers, showing just what humans can achieve with persistence, practice and precision.
The group will also undertake a special tour to Campinas and Jundiaí bringing their exceptional art to audiences in multiple Brazilian cities, expanding the cultural reach of this historic collaboration.
Lisa Roet - Golden Monkey Installation
Visual artist Lisa Roet, an Australian primatologist with a three-decade international career, will present a large-scale art installation that will remain for 30 days on the façade of the B32 building on Avenida Faria Lima - home to major global companies such as Meta. Her iconic work Golden Monkey represents the pinnacle of her career dedicated to powerful investigations into the complex interface between humans and other primates.
Roet's work is epic in scale, surprising and meaningful, examining climate change, evolution, creationism and the relationship between science and art. Her works have been shown in China, Australia, UK, New Zealand, Europe and the USA, and now arrive in Brazil as part of this unprecedented cultural collaboration.
Georgie Black, Founder and Creative Director of House of Oz, comments: "We are thrilled to be able to bring our fabulous artists to Brazil and are so excited for the invitation from Polo Cultural to be part of their broad-ranging and richly programmed festival. It's a very significant moment for House of Oz – our first foray outside of the Australia/UK performing arts circuit and very much gear-up on our mission for global support for Australian culture. We hope that our festival within a festival will represent the start of an important cultural relationship between Australia and Brazil, leading to wonderfully paved new pathways for Australian and Brazilian artists, audiences and stakeholders alike."
Polo Cultural
Founded in 1998, Polo Cultural was invited by the Government of the State of São Paulo to develop a three-year internationalization plan focused on the Edinburgh Festivals. With a track record of hiring over 10,000 artists, operating in more than 10 cities, and reaching audiences across all 26 Brazilian states, Polo Cultural has established itself as a leading force in Brazil's independent cultural sector.
The organisation represents excellence in Brazilian cultural production and has been instrumental in creating cultural bridges between Brazil and the international arts scene, always with a focus on artistic quality and significant cultural impact.
